Tamoy Sinclair

Art is in everything, everything is art…

Tamoy Sinclair (b. 1992, Manchester, JA) is a New York City based artist. Working primarily in oil and digital mediums, her practice spans portraiture and landscape painting. Deeply influenced by her Jamaican upbringing and the cultural richness of the Caribbean diaspora in New York, Sinclair’s work reflects themes of identity, memory, and belonging.

Her paintings center on the everyday lives of African American and Caribbean communities, offering visual archives of tenderness, care, and resilience. By depicting ordinary yet intimate moments, Sinclair creates works that honor emotional depth while preserving the nuances of cultural experience.

Rooted in figuration, her practice balances observation and imagination, weaving lived experience with explorations of healing and connection. Sinclair’s work has been featured in exhibitions across New York and continues to evolve as a means of amplifying underrepresented voices and stories in contemporary art.

Artist Statement

My artistic practice is rooted in the desire to preserve and celebrate the beauty, strength, and vulnerability of African American and Caribbean people. Through oil paintings, I create portraits and scenes that highlight ordinary moments showing acts of reflection, quiet joy, and nurturing that often go unseen or undocumented.

Growing up in Jamaica and now living in New York City, I carry with me the layered narratives of migration, diaspora, and cultural preservation. These stories shape my use of color, texture, and gesture, as I search for ways to capture both the resilience and tenderness of daily life.

I see my paintings as spaces for memory and care, where viewers are invited to recognize themselves or their communities. My work seeks to honor the inner child, the emotional labor of existing, and the spiritual necessity of rest. Ultimately, I create so people may feel seen, remembered, and held.
